Lulu Guinness Debut’s Her Newest Collection, Paint Project

Lulu Guinness debuted a striking collection of artistic “Hug and Hold” limited edition clutches in her newest collection, Paint Project on Thursday night at the Old Sorting House in London. The 180 limited edition of bags- each signed and numbered- was designed in collaboration with rousing artist Joseph Steele and creative agency, Beautiful Crime. Designed in high contrast colors (black, stone and red) with a focus on Steele’s stylish treatment and use of splattered paint, the clutch bags are large enough to hold everything from lipstick to an iPad. The collection harmonizes Steele’s use of paint and explosives with Guinness’ artful eye and trademark lips to conceive a collection that is charged with color, energy, and vibrance, however the most provocative element of Thursday’s night debut was the use of live explosives and canons used to splatter colored paint on Guinness’ clutches. Proceeds of three clutches created the evening of the launch and one clutch from the personal collection of Guinness of the collection will benefit The Art Room – an agency which offers children’s art therapy- and the remainder of the clutches will be available in stores and online at LuluGuinness.com for about $446 (USD) and £295 (GBP)

“My approach to making art is all about destruction, chaos, and chance” – Joseph Steele

“All of my collections draw on art for inspiration in one way or another, so it was a bit of a no brainer really! It was only a matter of time before my love of art and designing handbags fused together.” – Lulu Guinness

“Joe is very experimental in his approach to art, and not afraid to push the boundaries, much like my approach to handbags…I like a challenge, and exploring innovative new techniques, so Joe and I made the perfect partners in crime. I’ve not come across anyone who can use paint in such an impactful way, not since Anish Kapoor.” – Lulu Guinness

Heaven Sent | Heaven Tanudiredja Collection and Campaign For Honest by

Paula Goldstein | Honest By x Heaven Tanudiredja campaign

Honest by, Bruno Pieter’s eco-conscious fashion apparel brand that gave consumers full disclosure concerning manufacturing and production processes has teamed up with Indonesian designer, Heaven Tanudiredja. Roused by the beauty in the discord of mental disorders, Tanudiredja composed six dazzling pieces- the Delusional Bracelet (in two different styles), Pyromania Pendant,  Dyslexia necklace, Delusional earrings and the Avoident Clutch-for the Honest by collection. Sculptural and elegant in essence,  the beauty in the unsound resounds throughout this collection through Tanudiredja’s approach in jewelry design. In keeping with his inspiration the collection is manic, absurd, forceful and at times off putting. The color choices of army green paired with gold, coils, spikes, vintage crystals and embroidery present an erratic exterior. Within this exterior there is a frank and naive rawness to the pieces that makes his collection organic and fetching.

Tanujiredja, a designer concerned with reusing, remaining green and fashion pieces growing with its owner, is offering a lifetime guarantee for the collection, stating, “I would like to think by making pieces that are not driven by momentary style you are making a contribution or suggestion for longer consumption. More than that I like pieces with character, pieces that will grow with you and with time, similar to the vintage crystal I sculpt with – its a complete idea. This is something very important to me and apart of the mission to offer this guarantee.” In an age when consumption is so vast and consumers are quickly rotating their wardrobes and discarding timeless for trendy novelties, it is refreshing to a brand, a company and a designer that are dedicated to eternal fashion.

“I then adorned each piece with vintage crystals and unique hand-casted ornaments. I tend to focus on found crystals that are no longer produced, I enjoy the hunt of finding these obscure crystals, its like treasure hunt for me. Its part of the creative process the application of these uncompromising materials.” – Heaven Tanudiredja

Michelle Violy Harper | Honest By x Heaven Tanudiredja campaign

“What is really interesting in fashion today is how fast everything has to be. Fast design, fast production – the expectations are so high to sell FAST. I try to understand the minds of people, why are people less interested in products that require craftsmanship or slow trade, that might possibly last a lifetime. Personally, I like buying products that can be repaired and stay with me forever so I try to offer this to my customer.” – Heaven Tanudiredja
